One of his followers rented a huge sign in the center of Taipei. Let me introduce you to: Huang Ming-Liang, otherwise known as Master Miao Tien. Former military intelligence officer for the ROC army, friend of James Soong, and staunch KMT supporter even now.

You can read his record in Chinese at Wikipedia if you can find it or the somewhat simplified version: https://www.buddhachan.org/master/biography/.

Obviously, someone has too much money, as I feel the sign is wasted – I had no idea who this dude is, why he’s on a major advertising hoard, or what he’s on about. I also get the feeling that probably a dash of sycopathy (my neologism) is required to join this religious ‘group’, but I don’t know.

Charitable donations to religious causes with unclear aims, devoid of taxes on income, and lacking proper oversight fuel the development of religious cults for profit, of which I can name not a few. They are not unique to Buddhism or Christianity either.

Instead, donate the rental money for this sign to a cause that will use the money for the betterment of people’s lives or society: feed people, treat people, clean up the environment, for god’s sake. But that’s my own personal opinion: donate your wealth well or spend it well. Don’t throw it away!
