She’s decided she’s on a diet. Good for her! But her method is quite different to what I tried. She hasn’t realized the only effective diet is calorie deficit as a balance of energy consumed minus energy used. Gurus are all over the ‘net touting this and that weird diet!

The sad news is that most diets fail because they’re trying to change the result, not the causes. The causes are almost always an imbalance between calories consumed and calories expended. I’m not hopeful she’ll stick at it long enough.

So I told her my one piece of advice: change slowly, make each step repeatable, be successful, and if you fail, just keep going!
