Wow! I was using my wife’s laptop again this week for crunching numbers and writing lesson plans. It is excruciatingly slow at times as it gets bogged down doing the simplest things. We bought her the IBM Thinkpad Series R51 Pentium M 1.3Ghz model about 4 years ago. But we only got 256mb memory, with a CD/RW and XP Home in Chinese… In those days, laptop memory was quite expensive, and so we opted NOT to upgrade the memory. Foolish mistake! Penny wise, pound foolish! Every time I have to crank the lid, and do some work after turning it on, I have to go make some coffee while I wait for it to start. Often the coffee is done first, and that’s from scratch. You may save bucks up front when you cut corners, but in the long run, you end up spending a lot more … time if not money.
