I’m urging friends to get the Covid 4th (AKA 2nd booster) shot ASAP. Today’s jump in numbers, our own experience of COVID, and the likelihood of an increase to 60K a day in the short term. You may want to consider doing this now.
“Speaking at a news conference in Taipei, CECC head Victor Wang said Taiwan continued to see an upward trend in COVID-19 infections, with Wednesday’s new daily cases (28,570) increasing by 15.1 percent compared with the previous week.
“The significant increase in cases indicates that a peak is close, Wang said, adding that the number of new infections could start to break 30,000 per day from Aug. 30 or Aug. 31.
“The CECC had previously predicted a peak in late September or early October, with daily numbers of confirmed cases potentially going as high as 60,000 if not brought under control…”
I tried to get the booster shot last week, but my spouse came down with Covid, and generously shared it with me! I had originally booked for 8/19 and the doctor told me come back in a week to be sure I didn’t have Covid. She was right! I had to cancel AGAIN!
Now, I’m lucky but it hasn’t been fun:
Initially I had a very mild fever (not even 37.5C), very bad throat, slight congestion, mild chest discomfort/tightness, and much reduced energy levels. I was able to ride a bike on Sunday just fine, though.
The daily covid-tests yesterday indicated negative every day from 8/18 until 8/22 (when it turned positive) but it took till Monday to register a light positive on the saliva test. 8/24 was negative again!
Christine registered a positive the first time. She had a higher fever, bad throat, lethargy, cough…,we both had coughs for several days. In fact, it seems to be a signature feature of this version. She has also now tested negative for the virus.
In our cases, doctors prescribed Paxlovid due to age and possible comorbidities (for me, my BMI is currently 30.9) … I really need to focus on losing more weight after I get out again!
