Is this the original location? Or is there another where JK Rowling spent her youth penning various Harry Potter works. Kinda glad they forgot to mention the “Elephant House Cafe” where she apparently wrote some of the books. Well, she didn’t. Or at least not where the coffee shop currently is. That was Bauermeister Bookstore. LOL!
So what is the truth?

I’m not even sure that article is correct because Bauermeister Books was located there until 2004. I don’t remember it had a coffee shop either. It was books & stationary only. Was Elephant House upstairs? I don’t remember there being anything on the 2F but there are repeated references to Grayfriars Cemetery as being visible.
So did Elephant House have another location? I think it did: 32 Marshall Street, Edinburgh… The ‘new’ location burned down in 2021 and was due to reopen in 2024. There could’ve been yet another location nearby. I found links to 1996 at #21 on the George IV Bridge… so now I’m wondering if I walked past it too often to notice it! Whatever… the story as commonly received is truth or myth, it makes a good publicity campaign! Enjoy!
