These days, millions of workers are finding it hard to find or keep their jobs. Companies are cutting down, or even going out of business; and workers in many countries are finding that their ‘iron rice bowl’ is suddenly made of wet paper.

What can you do if you find yourself in this position? I have long been an advocate of finding multiple ways to earn money, either through taking extra work, renting out your premises, finding online work.

In some cases, you may find you need extra training or that pursuing additional education opens doors to you that were previously closed. For example, if you took medical training courses, you may find that you can take on work in this area.

Particularly taking courses that lead to additional qualifications or skills will help to maintain and enhance your employability, too, should you decide that you want to remain in more traditional employment.

These are scary times, for sure. But with a little foresight, you should be able to navigate these troubled waters a little easier.
