Has anyone ever been to Little Myanmar in Zhonghe, New Taipei City? : r/Taipei
Recommend going but I was advised not to go in the evenings. many of the eateries are closed. The best places are open in the mornings. till after lunch. The food is spicier and tastier, it’s not popular with my wife or her friends (I don’t know why) but I’d eat there any day. It’s just too far from Tamsui.
The first time I went many years ago, there was major construction going on. I also was with locals who didn’t know what to eat there. They wouldn’t eat the curries, and I didn’t go to eat endless bland noodle or rice dishes like elsewhere in Taiwan. None of us enjoyed it. My wife doesn’t want to go back.
So it’s not typical Taiwanese food, so it’s … “Oh, too spicy”, “Oh, too salty”, “Oh, too sweet”, “Oh, my god!”… it’s got flavor is what I’m saying, not just textures. If you like to try new things, you’ll enjoy it! If you like spice, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you only eat congee or vegetarian Taiwanese-style or think McDonald’s is good food, you probably won’t.
I won’t recommend any particular restaurant, I can’t find them in my Google Maps ‘pins’. So check out what people are actually eating… and the better food isn’t always served in the most sparkling of places, either. Probably what made eating there uncomfortable for the wife.
