Ah, yes. That’s because Wellcome used to be differentiated. I believe there were at three types. A type became eventually Jason’s. B type was like an urban location with a higher turnover (customers, products) + more international selection. And the C Type was the local, more basic needs + less selection (absence of many brands). Some stores were particularly uselessly small with poor selection.
It seems this is a practice that Carrefour also endorses. But Carrefour treats the Hypermarts as between Mia & Type A stores… so you can expect a better selection of import goods, and maybe even a specific area. It’s a PITA in the ass to go to a Carrefour expecting to find their own brand coffee only to find out they only stock instant coffee, for example.
Do Taiwanese NOT drink coffee? I don’t think so.
Do Taiwanese NOT know how to make coffee? I don’t think so.
Do Taiwanese NOT buy decent coffee? I don’t think so.
If you judge by how many brands/price points/etc the local PXMart has for coffee… it flies out the door. And we don’t have a large expat population here. It’s all local consumption. But the local CF has a really, really awful selection of coffee. It doesn’t even sell its own brands of ground coffee. Same as WELLCOME used to be.
