Pitches for Print

Since I have lived here for more than 20 years, I found having a camera has helped me rediscover Taipei! So you’ll find a common theme running through these suggestions because it’s something personal to me.

I. Landscape Views of Taipei

I remember many years before I came to Taiwan, wondering if what I’d heard about Taipei could be true: a landscape of factories, pollution and dirt. When I came here, I was charmed by the people, the cultures and (surprisingly) the landscapes of Taipei. From the mountains of Yangmingshan, to the gentle tea farms of Muzha, to the north east coast’s rolling beaches and seas, … Taipei offers many different environments that have continued to charm my soul. Let me share some of them with you.

II. Document Taipei Through The Lens

Do you remember Chunghwa Road full of big holes, which in the rainy season filled up like swimming pools; the charming Chung Hwa Bazaar on Chunghwa Road, later bulldozed to widen the boulevard; or the shanty town knocked down to create the Da’an Park area? In the last 10 years, the speed of redevelopment has accelerated dramatically, so it’s important to me to photograph my streets of Taipei, before my personal history of Taipei is completely eviscerated. Let me share some of my favorite areas (or what’s left), before the bulldozers tear them down.

III. Personal Photowalking in Taipei

Grabbing a camera and creating your own photowalk is a great way for me to discover Taipei. Whether it’s been a trip to Zhonghe Hongludi Temple, Nanjichang Community, or climbing Elephant Mountain, I found that simple act has really changed how I feel about Taipei, even after living here for 20 years. All kinds of places, stories, and scenes of Taipei have left their mark on me. I’d love to share and encourage you to do the same! Perhaps you’d like me to write one of them for you?
