We are finally getting rid of a lame duck government, lame since 2016. Will the new one be any better? At least, some in the Tory party understand what has happened.
“Our renewal as a party in a country will not be achieved by us talking to an ever smaller slice of ourselves, but by being guided by the people of this country. And if we want again, to be the natural party of government, then our values must be the people’s.”

It looks like Reform party draws support from both Conservatives & Labor. Honestly, the biggest takeaway from this year’s election is the voter share: 34.8% of the vote now secures a landslide.
They’d need the support of LibDems 34.8+11.6+6.8 to achieve an actual democratic mandate. Even then, with only a 59.5% voter turnout, it’s hardly democratic. Put it another way: Labor wins a landslide with 20.6% of the actual vote. 80% of the people DIDN’T vote for them. In other words, it’s still a minority government in terms of voter share.
2/3 didn’t vote for them and only 59.7% voted! So go figure the math! I’d put it close to 20% of the electorate or about 9.7 million! How democratic we are!
In fact, with swing voting in play, and the spoiler party Reform… I’d say the election was probably decided by even fewer than 9.7 million people, but that’s a fairly complicated calculation to do.
