We currently rent two units for our business: one classroom, one office space. We’ve swapped out almost all the old T8’s for LED units of various styles, except for one room.

Over the last six months, each time a light went out I said: should we swap out these 6 4×4 traditional T8 units? But the expense of doing so means that we’d be installing a bunch of new lights in a room we probably won’t rent next year. I haven’t been able to find old replacements in B&Q for quite a while. Finally, I found some on Shopee, and I replaced them.

Then I remembered: we still have the old units from the previous switch. Damn! Sure enough they’re safely stored. I guess it’s okay as it’ll provide a resource for replacements over the next few months anyway.

Well, after we replaced the water heater/cooler, the AC units, and 80% of the lights, we managed to save over NT$500,000 over the last 19 years. It’s incredible and that’s raw data, including the energy price inflation (unadjusted), so I’m not worried by spending a few more $ on the energy from 2 dozen T8’s that are on for a few hours every day. It just won’t make a big enough difference. They were already energy saving from the previous CFL tubes that we used!

However, the weather this year is much warmer, and having received the electricity bill, I note that it’s going to be a lot more this year. update coming.
