There is something weird about the demonstrations at LY recently. They seem too organized, too disciplined. I went there on Sunday. Not a single person there, except a lone security guard and a bunch of garbage cans and stacked barricades!
I don’t get the sense that there’s a massive amount of support for these outside the party blocks. Otherwise… why would people go home? Tired? Hungry? Of course, but tired and hungry protestors aren’t unusual. Empty streets are during protests.
I remember the protests that used to block central Taipei Station area. I couldn’t get to a class one day because of the terrible traffic that resulted during the day. These protests don’t seem to have that energy or purpose. Can someone explain why?
