So after my late night reading I discovered the reason the it’s shaped like that. It’s a single direction power input but dual direction data. The odd shaped connector is to provide power to the unit but it can only be fitted in one way, unlike many modern usb cables c that are bidirectional data & power.
It is distinct from the similar looking pinter USB (I have quite a few of those, too!)… so now I’m going to attach all my HDs and sort out the files… 3 copies and online back up!!!
