How we see the world is reflected in our speech. So what we say to others highlights our own perspectives. That is also true … when we speak, what we speak influences how we think. It’s a kind of yin-yang sort of cycle.
To return to your point, if you compliment someone on their work or action or appearance (even), it can benefit both the recipient AND the complimenter by helping both to change how they see the world for the positive.
You must have noticed this in your life. When you cross the road, for example, and a car honks at you, you think “wow! what a dangerous driver…!” then all you see are dangerous drivers!
So… complimenting someone else makes you feel positive, too! It’s a true win-win action!
