Yes, I wear them. I need to. So I used to hide them as I was embarrassed. Now I don’t care. I actually think I make them look good!

In the summer, it was just too hot to wear them under pants. So I started wearing them like exercise tights, under short pants. The compression feels like it has helped my poor leg circulation, too.

Two Tone

Life’s too short, wear two-tones!

Pattern Tights

These are super comfortable, not too tight, and my favorite color is… blue.

These Argyle style are fun, too. I couldn’t wear them initially but they’ve become more comfortable as I’ve lost weight. Unfortunately, they’re only available in two colors now. I would love the blue/black or black/pink colors. In fact, Amiss makes a wide selection, most of which I like.

Microfiber Tights

These microfiber tights by J&Lin were a big surprise. I had tried a pair from a European supplier, but they were hard to get hold of. So when I found these, I was quite pleased! They’re quite comfortable.

I also tried l’Eggs which were quite compressive but I couldn’t quite get the sizing right, I ended up with Q… but the waist band is a killer. It rolls down so easily. I also bought some Boots (UK) tights that were quite nice, with a generous waist.

I tried other brands of tights from stores and online, but found that the cheaper ones don’t wear comfortably, don’t wash well, and don’t last. It is so easy to put fingernails through the thinner tights and ruin a $7+ pair without even wearing them once!

I also have to limit myself to slightly larger sizes, from XXL or LL upwards to get the right fit. Obviously, I ain’t 165cm.

They get too old!

The biggest problem is deciding when some of these tights are too old. I don’t seem to tear them as often as I’d been lead to believe. So I probably wear them too long before buying new ones. How long are you supposed to wear them?

Men’s Brands

I also tried to a few of the male brands, some of which are difficult to get here. Others were quite expensive or poorly made with threads everywhere, heavy gussets and not overly comfortable.

Advantages of Tights

Ages ago, someone posted a list of the advantages of wearing tights. In the list they mentioned thigh chafing. That used to be a problem each year for me. I’d end up with an infection of some sort: tinia cruris, etc. But since I’ve worn tights that problem hasn’t recurred. Also, when exercising, the really help with muscle tiredness and cramp as well as boost circulation… in short, I really do have more energy. In the summer, they’re quite a lot cooler if I wear them with short pants. In the winter, I layer up or wear tights with inner fleece to keep the chill winds at bay.

I’ve been fortunate, my wife has been quite supportive though she detests wearing tights (many girls do, I don’t know why); I’ve been able to find light pants that can go over them or suitable short pants; mine look mostly like sports tights, too; and hardly anyone has said anything (so far). I’m not trying to crossdress, but I’m addressing a health concern that my parents both faced: yes, it’s DNA.

To return to the original reason: I need to have my varicose veins treated at some point… and I’m not looking forward to doing that, because judging by my legs it won’t be a simple fix.

At least, I’ll have lost some weight easing the problems in future, and I’ll probably have to wear tights every day afterwards. The good news is they probably won’t kill me, the veins that is. I’m not sure if I’ll be killed for crimes against fashion! LOL!
