#1 Foreigners are still welcome here. If you have an ARC/PARC, permission to work here, special visa, or extenuating reasons (business or otherwise), you will still be admitted to Taiwan. Visa-free and Tourist-visa visitors are not allowed to enter for the time being. Current details are at Boca.
#2 Foreigners didn’t bring the virus here… stigmatizing ‘foreigners’ is in my opinion as unacceptable as blaming Wuhan city residents or Chinese people. The virus isn’t their/our/anyone’s fault. Viruses happen. These people were sick before they left, caught it on route on the plane from other passengers… or did you forget incubation takes upto 5 days with little to no symptoms in many cases?… through no fault of their own. 99.999% of the people who caught it were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
#3 Most cases of the virus within Taiwan have been people returning to Taiwan from Europe or America or Japan. Most of those have been citizens. Many more have been returning because their schools/colleges/education courses have ALL been suspended. Not a few have nowhere else to go in their home country. Not a few have been thrown out of their accommodation illegally. Many are under the age of majority. What else do you expect them to do?
#4 All arrivals, regardless of passport or nationality are subject to the current quarantine rules, meaning that they can’t go out and mix with people for 14 days. CDC is particularly effective at tracing people, even strangers… and the fines are punitively heavy.
#5 I seriously hope they invite other people to come here. I want people to share Taiwan’s story, enjoy Taiwan’s culture, and go home with good memories. Tourism is part of Taiwan’s soft image sell. Part of Taiwan’s way to counter the CCP. Part of Taiwan’s way to take its place in the hall of nations.
Perhaps, as they say, Taiwan isn’t open to everyone right now… but we will be open again soon. In the meantime, please don’t engage in the sport of blaming other people for crap that happens to them.
