Chinese people have an interesting philosophy for health: the ideas of ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ that circulate your body. They believe that, for example, acne is caused by too much ‘heat’ in the body. To know, therefore, how to remove blackheads, you simply have to alter the balance of heat in your body by improving the energy circulation. While I oversimplify grossly, it’s basically just that: the imbalances of heat and cold cause illness and health problems.
Most of Chinese traditional medicinal practice involves changing that balance so that natural processes can operate efficiently again. I don’t know if it’s true, many of my friends believe this and go to Chinese doctors to be treated for more chronic conditions than anything else. Worth investigating.
I read that in Korea, for example, the health services co-exist with Chinese and Western trained doctors learning each other’s spheres. And medical conditions are treated by both philosophies.
