I was browsing through the DVD boxed sets at Amazon just a few minutes ago. I am very surprised at what is now available for purchase now. There are many boxed sets from even before the era of the DVD itself. This is just great, especially for the kind of videos that I find useful in class time.
I do love to use sit-coms for class time for a number of reasons: duration (can show a whole episode within the confines of a 2 hour class), characters, humor, each episode is self-contained, so shows can be matched and mixed easily. I have made extensive use of Friends in this way, and now some of my other favorite comedies are available. Here’s a list you can check them out yourselves!
Friends TV Series
Very funny. Ideal for University students, as the characters are all quite popular. You can also find the scripts and episode guides easily online. This series is newly out on DVD, but there don’t seem to be any transcripts of actual TV shows. However, you can still get the episode guide.
Sex and The City
.Completely available on DVD, with episode guide only.I’ve also been collecting the Frasier Frasier
and Seinfeld Seinfeld
series for classes. Both of these are excellent.
