We’re busy planning our summer trip for 2010, and we’re a bit behind schedule with the planning of things due to strikes by BA and Lufthansa, and the Ash Cloud over most of Northern Europe.

However, I finally contact the travel agent and she sent me a long list of stuff, but decoding all the airline codes in the tickets wasn’t easy. For example, I couldn’t figure out which airline was which until I use the Airline Codes Website. It really helped me sort out Cathay (CI), China Airlines (CX) and Air China (CA) and all the other dozen or so with similar codes!

But try as I might when I was insurance online with my airplane and train tickets, I noted the exclusions that many policies had: you have to be resident in THAT country. Since I was buying tickets in the UK, I had to be resident in the UK for insurance policies, despite being able to buy the tickets from abroad! Smart thinking, guys!

So, check the small print. There are many policy exclusions that you may find the parasitic insurance industry won’t tell you upfront. I never buy additional travel insurance anymore. I’m not sure if I save money as a result or lose out on payouts. I guess it’s one less thing to worry about. After all, I thought buying insurance made it one less thing to worry about.
