Taiwan has lots of motels, it’s true. Some of them are pretty drab, some of them are quite fancy and on a par with a better than average local hotel. But not one of them I have visited seems to offer the features found in miami motels: steps to the beach (ha!), large swimming pools, airport shuttle buses, or award winning restaurants.
More’s the pity. However, there isn’t always a good choice of hotels in some areas; the motels do seem more prevalent in some less-touristed parts of Taiwan. So it makes a convenient and affordable choice, but you may feel they are a bit wanting by comparison.
One tip: if you’re staying in a motel, always choose one that is recently opened. The facilities do tend to be better. Older motels here usually don’t have all the mod-cons of newer ones, and they don’t always renovate or upgrade promptly. Typically, the owner just sits on his/her investment until it becomes rundown or closes.
Compared to Miami motels, though, there’s hardly a comparison in terms of quality or range or service. Even the prices in Miami are hard to beat. But that’s not an option if you don’t travel.
