On Friday, my friend Terry told me she was considering buying a netbook for work/travel because she thought she had a lot of time to spend waiting for her daughter to finish classes. She could use the time to surf/blog (she has four blogs!).

I was comparing different netbooks as a definite alternative to laptops: lighter, less power intensive, portable, snug fit in most purses…

But for some users, the netbooks might feel underpowered compared to more traditional notebooks or laptop computers. I have used mine for over a year, and I do notice that sometimes it feels slower when on battery power or when doing heavier number crunching. But those negative points don’t make me regret purchasing it at all.

Why? It’s sheer portability (weight, size) and respectable battery life more than make up for the deficit in power. But that’s just my 2c.

I did find a model of Asus Eee PC S101 series on sale locally, and it would be a good purchase for her. But I think she might baulk at the monthly broadband wireless fees! Oh, well… you can’t have everything!
