We’re spoilt for choice these days in the Second Browser Wars. There are at least five popular choices and quite a few non-mainstream choices as well. So if you have bought a new netbook or notebook recently, and didn’t get a choice of browser, just lumpy old Internet Explorer version 6, then some of these are worth trying.

  1. Light a match and set up FireFox (versions *2 and **3)
Download the latest version of Firefox by clicking here.
  2. Update your IE to the later editions of Internet Explorer (versions 7 and *8)
Download the latest version of Internet Explorer by clicking here.
  3. Got Mac envy? Satisfy your quest for Safari (versions *3 and *4)
Download the latest version of Safari by clicking here.
  4. Polish that desktop with Google Chrome (versions *1 and **2)
Download the latest version of Google Chrome by clicking here.
  5. For divas, and small installs, try out Opera (versions 9.5 and **10+)
Download the latest version of Opera by clicking here.

I’ve also tried some other less standard browsers that are worth downloading as well:

  1. For social media buffs, fly on over to Flock (versions *1 and **2)
Download the latest version of Flock by clicking here.
  2. For those ‘into’ music, get Songbird (version *1+)
Download the latest version of Flock by clicking here.
  3. For those who prefer Netscape (all-in-one style), try Seamonkey (version 1+)
Download the latest version of SeaMonkey by clicking here.
  4. If you like faster browsing, get lightweight K-meleon (version *1+)
Download the latest version of K-Meleon by clicking here.

I’ve only got nine on my list of alternative browsers, but I’m sure I can add more if I just tried. BTW, * indicates I tried it and removed it. ** means that I installed and kept it! I kept over five browsers on my machine right now. The only one I don’t have is Safari. Also, most of these browsers are crossplatform apart from IE and K-Meleon. With all these browsers, why stick with one outdated and outmoded browser?
