Still looking for a netbook? If you are, then you’re not alone. And the prices are getting really cheap! Especially if you are looking at a deal with your mobile telecom supplier or you can find one in a Fire Sale!
The Asus Eee PC 900 series entered the market just a scant six or eight months ago, but prices have dropped as Asus has pushed the bigger 10″ models and has rolled out numerous upgrades.
But there’s still nothing wrong with the older models of the 8.9″ series which would fit in plenty of satchels, bags and briefcases! And you’ll still have room for your lunch, your Stephen King hard back edition, and your wallet!
Seen on Buy.com’s website, you will find a refurbished Asus Eee PC 900 with an 8GB running Linux on 512mb for $179.99 and an XP model with 1GB, a 12GB SSD. With no moving parts, these machines are reasonably rugged, and have reasonable battery life. It’s available for $274.95. Both of these are standard editions. For basic stuff, I’d choose the Linux model as you won’t have much of a problem with viruses. However, if you need some XP applications, going for the XP model would be preferable as most consumers are showing. However, adding a virus scanner may slow down your small PC.
Personally, I find the keyboards a tad small, making my purchase of an AspireOne more sensible for my largish fingers. But at less than $280, I’d be prepared to put up with cramped fingers any day!
