With the heat in Taiwan, and summer fast approaching, beach wear and the swimsuit are about to reappear on the beaches and swimming pools all over Taiwan.
But with the sun also fierce during most of the day, and my white skin, a swimsuit isn’t something that I’ll be donning ever since my nasty experience with sunburn about 15 years ago.
I wore shortpants for about six hours, and soaked my legs in water as we freshwater paddled in Hualien. However, with the strong sun, I had the most severe sunburn on my legs, such that I couldn’t walk. The combination of water and high UV gave me the worst experience of summer.
Since then I typically cover up with longsleeves, a hat, and long pants. It’s uncomfortable but at least it’s safer.
