For most people in the Western world and in many dozens of other countries, the mantra of one person one vote is taken for granted. Not so in China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Singapore.
In fact, yesterday’s election for the presidency of the Republic of China underscores how democratic change has become part and parcel of life here. Taiwan is still after 12 years the ONLY chinese society in the world that has regular, full and free elections. Taiwan is still the only Chinese Society where people can speak their minds on politics freely, and without fear of prosecution. Have you tried that in Tibet recently?
